"Cultivate Compassion" (Meth Sithin Guna Wadamu) is the theme of the Vesak Week.
This year the State Vesak Festival will be held at Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya in Badulla District on 3 May.
There will be no sale of meat or liquor on May 3 and 4.

The government has declared Vesak Week from April 30 to May 6 with the approval of the President.
