Sri Lanka and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) have entered into an agreement to begin cooperation between CERN and the scientific community in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka‘s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha and the Director General of CERN, Mr. Rolf-Dieter Heurer, signed an “Expression of Interest’ (EOI) Agreement on Thursday, 25 June 2015 at the CERN Headquarters in Geneva to give effect to this process.
The Elections Department is making preparations to hold the General Elections on August 17.
Following the Friday (26) dissolution of Parliament, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that his department is getting ready to hold the Parliamentary Elections on August 17.
The Presidential Commission to Inquire into complaints regarding Missing Persons has commenced public sittings in the Trincomalee District.
The Commission said observations will focus on Trincomalee and Muttur till the 30th of June.
At least 519 people were injured after a cloud of flammable powder exploded at a water park in New Taipei City on Saturday night.
Taipei health officials were quoted as saying that 194 persons were critically injured. They were rushed to 37 different hospitals for emergency treatment. Health authorities said that many of the critically injured have sustained burn injuries to their respiratory system because of inhalation of the coloured powder that had ignited.
